Caribbean holidays are everything
you want them to be...from luxury sunshine paradise to unforgettable
rainforest adventure. From diving to honeymoons, cruising to
golf, wedding to eco-adventure, music to history, a Caribbean
dream holiday has it all.
The Caribbean region benefits
from excellent weather conditions all year round, with average
temperatures of 80/85° F (27/31°C). Climates on individual
islands vary little (max. 5°C between the northern and southern
Caribbean). From May to November the weather is wetter and the
air more humid. The rainy season, however, varies slightly from
one country to another with the rainfall in short, sharp bursts.
High temperatures are usual throughout this period.
Inter-Caribbean travel is most
convenient by air, though boat transfers can be found between
some islands. There are some regular, if slow, ferry connections
and a few fast catamaran services e.g. between the Eastern Caribbean
islands and between the Virgin Islands, available. Several national
and regional airlines offer air passes to facilitate two and
multi-centre visits within the region. There are also dozens
of smaller airlines and sailing companies with planes and boats
available for private charter.
Most Caribbean countries offer
a wide choice of tours via taxis, rental cars and even bikes.
In addition to any excursions arranged through your hotel, taxis
are plentiful. These are not metered, so visitors are recommended
to agree the fare beforehand. Frequent and affordable public
services are available in most countries. Look out for 'route
taxis' or 'maxi taxis', like mini-buses which ply specific routes
and are quite reliable.
If you wish to drive locally,
you may need a special permit. These are usually available at
car rental companies for a few US Dollars.
Most of the larger resorts
offer childrens' clubs with a vast range of daytime activities.
Some hotels may also be able to arrange for child care through
qualified minders during the day or baby sitters at night. With
so many options available it is relatively easy to please any
child during their stay in the Caribbean.
